Fiona Galbraith

Sports editor

I grew up in Paisley, studied journalism in Glasgow and spent sixteen years as a sports features writer. I covered football, golf, darts and snooker for Scottish newspapers and magazines before going freelance in 2022. The Almanac is where my love of the whole sporting calendar meets a healthy suspicion of bookmakers' marketing.

Why an almanac?

Sport has a calendar, and betting follows it. I wanted a guide that treats darts, golf and snooker with the same care as football, because many readers care about them far more.

How the ratings work

I bet with my own accounts across a full season of different sports, recording prices, markets, each-way terms and withdrawal times. The form guide grades reflect that testing. I only rate bookmakers licensed by the Gambling Commission.

Independence

Some links earn a commission when readers open accounts. That pays for the testing, but it never changes a grade or a recommendation.
